Day 5: Jericho and Mount of Temptation

After visiting the River Jordan, day 5 continued with a meal in Jericho. Jericho is the oldest continuously occupied city in the world.

Jericho

As we left the Jordan River, we saw a little more of the desert during the short drive.

Then we reached Jericho. It's the oldest city in the world. I believe this is in terms of being continually occupied. The US equivalent is Saint Augustine, Florida, which is also home to a site that's touted as the site of the first Mass in the United States. Jericho was also the first city that the people of Israel conquered upon entering the Promised Land.

The streets of the city are more typical. I'm pretty sure the pizza restaurant wasn't around in the time of Jesus; so that must be a modern addition.

Jericho rests close to some tall hills.

We made it to the restaurant for our meal. There was a very good drink that I believe was limeade with some flakes of green in it that was good. I loaded up on a few glasses of it.

The food was good, and they beat drums as they brought it out and presented it. We enjoyed our meal. There was a bit of a surprise as we celebrated the birthday of anyone with a birthday that month. Cakes were brought out, and they were good.

We left the restaurant and made a quick stop by the Mount of Temptation. We remained on the bus for this very brief stop. We had to get to Jerusalem to remain on schedule. The next event was scheduled, so we didn't want to be late. Only in hindsight did I consider that perhaps they were just protecting us from the temptation of the place, so keeping it brief and not letting us get too close might have been a protective measure.

On the ride up to Jerusalem, we went through the Judean Wilderness/Desert. As previously posted, there was much more green than usual. I was told that people won't recognize my photos as being the desert.

This was a quick post. There's just one other thing left for day 5 before checking into our 3rd and final hotel in Jerusalem.

We continued on to Jerusalem!
